If I am out somewhere with Annabelle, I’m wearing her talker around my waist. I want to be sure she can get to it any time she’s ready to talk.
Today, for the first time ever, I saw another parent doing the same thing.
Lily noticed first. She was full of joy as she ran across the room to tell me that there was another kid with a talker. Today, for the first time, she got to see that there are other kids who communicate like her little sister does.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that I had chills when I went to introduce myself. I could feel all kinds of big emotions bubbling inside as I told her how amazing it was to see someone else with an #aacdevice , to see someone else supporting their young child in the same ways I support mine.
Today, for the first time, I got to see an essential part of my parenting journey in another person. I got to feel like our family isn’t on this journey alone.
It felt like a beautiful thing 🌈
