What is that hard thing that you hold inside yourself— the thing that feels too big and impossible? The one thing that you know— if you could make it happen, it might just change everything?
I’ve had so many goals that I let slide past me because I didn’t feel like there was any way I could really accomplish them. Ideas that seemed impossible or changes that felt too big, even though I believed they would make me feel happier or healthier or more complete.
Just having the idea, finding a spark of creativity or imagining a way to feel better, that’s the most important part. We have to pay close attention to ourselves; sometimes, we have to move past what we have learned we should be or have been told to do and find a way that works for our true selves.
We have to interrupt the voice inside telling us no. We have to silence the worries about too many steps or not enough time or how others would view us. We have to say— actually, I can.
ACTUALLY, YOU CAN.
Then, we have to take the first step. Not a step on a smooth, stable pathway but one up a steep, winding staircase. See your hard thing at the top and imagine how beautiful it will be, how wholly you deserve to get there. Know that you CAN get there.
One step. Then another. And then slowly you will realize, that impossible thing was never really as far away as you thought. Life can be as lovely as we envision and, actually, YOU CAN make the changes that seem impossible. You just have to start.
